We now have more information about the cairn near Lands Lokk. We prematurely concluded that the cairn might have been built by Otto Sverdrup.
It is Day 41 of the expedition and we have arrived at our northern most destination Lands Lokk, which is Otto Sverdrup’s furthest north which he obtained on May 6, 1902, so just a few days before we arrived.
When we set out on this trip, we knew the dogs would help, but we didn’t know how much. And the answer is in these ski conditions they help big time. And that’s the kind of the magic of skiing and use of sled dogs in combination.
Today was just a super awesome ski day. Musk Ox Herd On top of that, we ran into a musk ox herd and were escorted into camp by two wolves that were a few hundred yards away from us as we skied into our campsite location.
Axel, male, named after Axel Heiberg Island, 4 years old. Elle, female, named after Ellesmere Island, 4 years old. Napu, male, named after a the lashing prong on an Inuit komatik dog sled, 7 years old. Larry, male, named after another dog named Larry, 4 years old. Larry, Elle (pronounced el-ee), and Axel are all from the same litter.
