Today, Governor Tim Walz announced a new legislative package to advance Minnesota’s standing as a leader in addressing climate change and facilitating the transition to an equitable, clean energy future.
We applaud the requirement for our state’s electricity sector to provide 100% clean energy by 2050, putting us in leadership with other states across the country that are committing to bold climate action and forward-thinking energy policy at the sub-national level.
In addition, we support the investments this package shows in low income energy efficiency, clean energy jobs, and preventing new fossil fuel generation when clean energy alternatives exist.
These policy priorities advance the MN Can’t Wait platform and the recommendations of the Minnesota Green New Deal.
“With the federal government continuing to fail on climate change, it’s time for states to take the lead,” said Governor Walz. “Minnesota can become a leader in the green energy economy.”
The urgency that our changing climate demands, alongside the economic benefits of investing in clean energy, shows that this is the right thing to do for all Minnesotans. This leadership from the Walz administration is steering our state and our communities toward the fossil free future we envision, and the future we all deserve.
